INTRODUCTORY SEMINAR FOR NEW STAFF OF COMPETITION AUTHORITIES IN EASTERN EUROPE AND CENTRAL ASIA

Expert advisor Adnan Smajkić and senior expert associate Adnan Popara participated in the “Introductory seminar for new staff of agencies responsible for issues of competition protection and state aid control”, held in Bilbao, Spain, in the period 05-08. February 2024. This was the first seminar for new employees organized by the OECD GVH RCC, held outside Hungary, and its special feature was that it was realized as a result of cooperation between the University of Deusto Bilbao and the Spanish Competition Agency with the RCC.

The program covered relevant topics from competition law and practice, which is of great importance for new staff of competition agencies. During four days, the participants learned about the implementation of competition law in the EU and member states.
The practice of competition agencies to prevent prohibited competitive activities (fighting cartels, abuse of dominant position, obstacles to market entry, etc.) is presented.

Bearing in mind the role that competition agencies play in the development of the free market, the participation of the representatives of the Competition Council in these types of training proved to be extremely important, not only in the sense of strengthening professional capacities, but also through building common ties with the officials of other beneficiery agencies of the RCC.
